1. Test overview.
This test is used to verify that the Slide Encoder AF Zero motor is able to find his position zéro.
This position varies according to the gates (since the encoder wheel can be positioned anywhere) this has no importance, since the Slide Encoder AF Zero will do to a complete search, i.e. aligned starting and finishing position. The finishing position corresponds to position 0 on the encoder, the finishing position corresponds to position 249.
Explanation on the encoder wheel : The encoder wheel used for the Slide EncoderAF Zero is the same than that of the other film carrier : It has 500 tops per turn (1), which indicate the precise position of the slide for the Slide EncoderAF. It has also 1 top per turn (2) which indicates position 0. The outside positions of the wheel (3) are not used.
To do this test, the scanner will move the autofocus motor and will ascertain if the position 0 has been found (by the encoder wheel).
If position 0 is not found, the Slide autofocus will not function.
2. Test conditions.
This test relates to the Mounted slide gate inserted in the scanner.
The Mounted slide gate must be inserted in the scanner to carry out this test.
No slide is necessary for this test.
The acceptance of the test is automatic.
No parameter is saved.
3. Pre-requirements.
the encoder wheel must be in the centre of the sensor, and especially not touch the latter. It is important to check that the encoder wheel is not buckled.
4. Test realisation.
Click on RUN to execute the test. A window will appear requiring to withdraw the film carrier.
When it is done, to click on Restart.
A news window requests the insertion of the film carrier.
When it is done, click on Restart (attention, before clicking on Restart, wait until the film carrier has been dedected: top box, left and side indicates " Slide ").
This phase of ejection - insertion of the film carrier is used to ensure that the film carrier is in a nominal position to start the test.
The scanner will move the Slide autofocus motor until finding position 0.
Final the result will be displayed on the screen.
5. Test acceptance.
The test is is accepted if position 0 has been found, is rejected if not found.

If position 0 is not found, all the tests where an image is scanned will be affected, as well as the following test :
7. Trouble shooting.
If the test fails with the message " Fail: Cancel by user " : this is due to the fact that the film carrier went undetected when the Restart button was pressed. Start again the test by taking care to wait until the film carrier is detected when it is inserted.
If the test fails : remove the protective plate and to visually check that the wheel is well positioned in the sensor, that it does not touch it, that it is not buckled, that it is not damaged and that the hole position 0 is not sealed In this case, to change it.
