1. Test overview.
This test is used to adjust the film carrier so that sharpness at the top of film is close to sharpness at the bottom of film.
For this, the scanner will scan a target film, and will define a level of sharpness at the top and at the bottom of film. The user will need to adjust the screws of the film carrier to set the level of sharpness.
If sharpness at the top is different from the sharpness at the bottom of film, that may cause differences in sharpness on the scanned images.
2. Test conditions.
This test relates to the APS film carrier inserted in the scanner.
The APS film carrier must be inserted in the scanner to carry out this test.
Film APS Colour Target Film must be used for this test (ref. 070 100 416A):
The acceptance of the test is automatic.
No parameter is saved.
3. Pre-requirement.
4. Réalisation du test.
Click on
RUN to execute the test. A message will appear requesting the insertion of the APS Colour target film. When the film is inserted, click on
OK.
Note : the colour target film consists of :
- First exposure on which values are handwritten, in particular the sharpness value to reach for this film.
- Second virgin exposure on which the scanner will calculate the level of sharpness.
- Other exposures identical to the first but not used.
The scanner will scan the first and the second exposure of film then will display an image mixing:
- part of the second image where calculation of the level of sharpness was done.
- part of the first image where the level of sharpness seen need to be reached.
The calculated level of sharpness is displayed at the top in the boxes TOP and Bottom In the box Min to reach, enter the film hand written value (about 30, according to films).
Note : the value of sharpness can vary from one scanning to another, sometimes of 4 or 5 points. This is due to the fact that the film is never scanned exactly at the same place.
5. Test acceptance.
The test is accepted if the difference between the level of sharpness calculated at the top and that calculated at the bottom is lower to 6% of the largest of the 2.
6. Other affected tests.
If the sharpness at the top is very different from the sharpness at the bottom, test APS Cal encoder 2 could be affected.
7. Trouble shooting.
If The test is rejected with the message " Top is more than bottom " (or the reverse) : this means that the sharpness at the top is larger or smaller than that of the bottom. Withdraw the film carrier and adjust the high or low screw (while following the instructions on the screen). The goal is to increase the lowest value . Caution: Do not turn more than 1/4 of turn in one direction or in the other compared to the starting position.
If The test is rejected with the message " Nil value for sharp max " : this means that the sharpness value to reach (Min to reach) was not entered (it remained to 0). Start again the test and enter the value Min to reach.
