1. Test overview.
This test is used to adjust the film carrier so that the sharpness at the top of film is close to the sharpness in bottom of the film.
For that, the scanner will scan a target film, and will ascertain a level of sharpness at the top and bottom of film. The user will be required to adjust the screws of the film carrier to adjust the level of sharpness.
If the sharpness at the top is different from the sharpness at the bottom of the film, that can cause discrepancies in sharpness on the scanned images.
2. Test conditions.
This test relates to the 135 Film carrier inserted in the scanner.
The 135 Film carrier must be inserted in the scanner to carry out this test.
The 135 Film Colour Target Film must be used for this test (ref. 070 100 415A):
The acceptance of the test is automatic.
No parameter is saved.
3. Pre-requirements.
4. Test realisation.
Click on
RUN to carry out the test. A message will be displayed asking to insert the 135 Colour target film. When the film is inserted (caution : watch for the direction of film), click on
OK.
Note : the colour target film is made of:
- First exposure on which values are noted by hand, in particular the value of sharpness to be reached for this film.
- Second virgin exposure on which the scanner will calculate the level of sharpness.
- Third and fourth exposure to the first but not used.
The scanner will scan the first and the second exposures of film then will display an image mixing :
- the part of the second image where the calculation of the level of sharpness was made.
- part of the first image where the level of sharpness seen is to be reached.
The caculated level of sharpness is displayed in the dialog boxes "
TOP" and "
BOTTOM". In the dialog box "
Min to reach" enter value written down on the film (about 70, according to films).
Note : The value of sharpness can vary from one scanning to another, sometimes of 4 or 5 points. It is due to the fact that a film is never scanned exactly at the same place.
5. Test acceptance.
The test is accepted if the difference between the level of sharpness calculated at the top and that of the bottom is lower to 6% of largest of the 2.
6. Other affected test.
If the sharpness at the top is different from the bottom sharpness, test 135 Cal encoder 2 could be affected.
7. Trouble shooting.
- If The test is rejected with the message " Top is sharper than bottom" (or the reverse) : this means that the sharpness at the top is larger or smaller than that of the bottom. Withdraw the film carrier and adjust the high or low screw (by following the instructions on the screen). The goal being to increase the lowest value. Caution: Do not go beyond than 1/4 of turn in both directions compared to the starting position.
- If The test is rejected with the message " Nil value for sharp max " : this means that the value of sharpness to be reached (Min to reach) was not entered (it remained to 0). Start again the test and enter the value Min to reach.
